Mail Carrying Rockets Fire Across Rio Grande
A floatill themed event in McAllen marks the 25th anniversary of mail carrying rockets across the Rio Grande. Keith Rumbel built the first rockets and led a crossing that sent several four foot rockets toward Reynosa Mexico while dignitaries on both sides lit fuses for peace. Rockets flew in irregular patterns and most landed on the Mexican shore with some landing in the river. Stamped covers bearing flags from the United States Mexico and the United Nations were distributed along with American Legion stamps.
