An irate George Mahon denied rumors he will retire at the end of his current congressional term. He dismissed reports and speculation circulating in the press regarding his future plans.
A strong afternoon rally sent the Dow Jones above 700 for the first time in five months, rising 11.19 points to 708.96. The day features heavy NYSE volume with 27.41 million shares traded as the Nasdaq-like movers such as RCA, Sony, and Polaroid show notable activity amid bank rate expectations.
General Alexander Haig Jr repaid the Army 91 dollars in shipment charges for liquor sent in a crate labeled glassware. An aide said the affair marks a second embarrassment in less than a month for the NATO commander and former White House chief of staff.

Arno R Dalby 66 a pioneer in motor freight died at Methilist Hospital in Houston after a long illness. A Lubbock native since 1932 he chaired T I M E DC Inc and served as director of First National Bank. He built Dalby Motor Freight Co from Post in 1929 later creating TIME DC. Funeral arrangements are pending.
