At Hotel Lubbock east ballroom at 9:30 Dr. L C Riethmayer of Texas Technological College will discuss pending legislation. All women of the city invited. Mrs Lloyd Croslin to perform piano numbers. Executive committee meeting called for 3 15 a m.
Mrs. J. A. Crawford hosted the Liberty Study club’s Wednesday program on Famous Americans directed by Mrs. O A Cocks with participants including Mrs. R P Onstott and Mrs. C E Newton. Roll call named famous American leaders and Mrs. A A O Briant was welcomed as a new member.
Mrs S B Hay of 1220 Tenth hosted the Forty Two club at her home on Wednesday afternoon. Attendees included Mesdames Maddox Hulen Sampson Vaughn Griffin Montgomery Thomas Sims Pate and Owens. Next meeting set for February 14 at Mrs Hulen s home on Plainview highway.
The Cumberland Presbyterian Messenger program Our Responsibilities in a Changing World was presented by Brown Welch as program leader. Eight members attended the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church adult circle meeting Thursday afternoon.
Tommy G Wynne of Lubbock and Miss Martine Dobbs of Chicago wed here recently. The groom is a son of Rosa Adams and the bride had been visiting as a guest of Carl Wynne and family. The note adds a political line about democracy as a growing possibility.
Mrs. Virgil Kershner described Rio de Janeiro conditions and transportation in 1942, noting bus use, private cars, and class mobility issues. She observed literacy gaps and improving education for the lower class children. About 70 people attended with program plans by the legislative committee.
Twenty attendees joined a Thursday luncheon of the First Baptist Truth Seekers class in the church annex. Mrs. Grady Bownds presented two readings and Dr. C. E. Hereford, pastor, spoke.
The Zavlo club will entertain with a dance tonight from 9 to 11 at the Lubbock hotel. Buddy Arnett's orchestra will provide music and the club sweetheart will be presented by Tom Ingram, the club president.
Mrs W T Pete West arrives to spend time with her parents Dr and Mrs M C Overton at 2523 Twenty first. Lt Walter H Glazener of San Francisco visits his mother Mrs Irene Glazener at 1012 Nineteenth. Mr and Mrs E W Eddins of Muskogee Oklahoma are weekend guests of Mr and Mrs Retha Martin at 2701 Nineteenth. Mrs P L Denton of Eldorado Oklahoma visits daughter Miss Willie Jo Gossett, with other relatives noted at St Marys.
Euzelian class of the Baptist church met Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs Olen Perryman 2016 Twenty fifth Street. Mrs J W Simmons served as president with ten members present.
Mrs. O. D. Peden hosted the Betsy Ross Needle club Thursday afternoon at 2436 Twenty-first Street. Attendees included Boyd Millsap Elmer Haass W. M. Cheaney Wylie Hudman E. L. Rabin and the hostess.

Jolly Working club 3 p m with Mrs. B W Rowden. Auxiliary to IBEW Local 2 meets with Mrs J L Howard. 1941 Needle club 7 p m at Chicken House for husbands. First Baptist Ruth class 1 p m activities center luncheon. Den Mothers Training 2 p m with Mrs Elliott Taylor.
A notice reports Pfc. James C. Gilmore of the coastal artillery, captured May 6 1942 off Corregidor, has sent a letter from Osaka Japan indicating he is well. The card arrived at the 1827 Texas address after previous communications went to Rt. 6, Lub bock, confirming mail reach and family contact.
Twenty women attended the SS club meeting at Mrs. P. H. Benton’s home. The group sewed for the hostess and prepared cake and candy for two soldiers. Eleven new members joined. The next meeting is set for 2 30 p m February 6 at Mrs. Bill Burleson’s home.
