Heroin Suspect's Trial Continues
The trial of Joe Guerra, 34, of 2209 2nd Place, charged with possession of heroin, resumes at 8:30 this morning in Judge William Shaver's 140th District Court with motions before jurors are recalled at 9. Jurors were selected late Wednesday but dismissed at 3:20 this afternoon to allow attorneys and Judge Shaver to discuss points of law. Guerra was charged after a police paid April 26 on a residence in the 2600 block of Bates Street. Dragos, and project supervisor Bil Conklin had made no definite safety plans, indicating sand samples are needed before final decisions. Eight witnesses testified, including Sam Wahl, public works director for the Hub City, who said the city had made no decisions on safety operations or future work at the far southwest Lubboch site. Smith said the court heard testimony from eight witnesses, including Wrageo, Conklin and the five men at the worksite when the collapse occurred, before ruling. The inquest was closed to protect the witnesses.
