Churchill affirms unconditional surrender policy in Commons

London January 16 Prime Minister Churchill told Parliament the Allies will continue to fight until Germany surrenders unconditionally. He rejected calls to reconsider the policy amid Allied unity debates and noted the Atlantic Charter remains valid though immediate goals may take time. He warned against peace by negotiation and cited support from the Allies.

Shortage Of Nurses Remains Community Problem

Mrs Hildd Watson Beaty of Red Cross headquarters told over 150 cadet nurses and members of the District 18 Texas Graduate Nurses association at First Methodist church that nurse shortages are a community and national issue. She cited that 30 percent of US registered nurses have volunteered for military service since the war began and noted patient nurse ratios of 22 at home and overseas, with authorized ratios of 15 at home and 12 overseas. She outlined enlistment steps for Army and Navy duty and named Mrs Corine Lattimore as Red Cross recruiting nurse for the district, to work with the Abilene area office. Maude Bledsoe led the meeting.

Amarillo Man Aboard Missing Pratt Bomber

Pratt Army Air Field searches over water for a four engine bomber on a training flight with 16 aboard. Col. Kermit D. Stevens said no further details could be released. Among those aboard is 2nd Lt. Borden L. March of Amarillo.

Churchill Remarks On Charter Aims As Guidance Not Law

Churchill says the charter is a standard of aims and direction, not law, and there is little need to discuss which parts are valid immediately. He mentions the president described it as a guide for the alliance and future steps.

Seaman 2c and Mrs. Farris Tomlinson, both 24, of Ropesville died in a Sacramento California car accident Sunday. Tomlinson stationed at Camp Parks and wife visiting Emmett McMillan's family from Meadow. Bodies to Plains Funeral Home Lubbock. Tomlinson a former Hockley County farmer.

Kilgore Flier Ensign Holleyman Killed in Nevada Crash

Ensign D J Holleyman of Kilgore Texas was killed when his Corsair collided mid air near Fallon Nevada. The other plane landed safely. The report places the fatal crash in the 12th Naval district. Thomas Jefferson was 33 when he drafted the Declaration of Independence.
