County to separate long distance numbers for departments

Lubbock County Commissioners Court ordered a new system to assign separate numbers for long distance calls by each department. The change aims to stop charging personal tolls to taxpayers and ties to updated departmental record keeping. The courthouse averages 225 long distance tolls monthly, mostly in about 25 departments, with Royal Fursekon finalizing a list of calls for accountability.

Water conservation district district directors and county committee vote

Voters in 13 counties will elect two district directors and two county committeemen today. Nominees include Andrew Kershen of Hereford for the district seat vacated by John Gammon and Bass Holt of Hereford. Goodwin seeks the district director post for Rai n Cain and Palmer counties. County committeemen from Lubbock include Thompson and W. Q. Roberts of Ridan Precinct. Robin Ve and Bill Mardy of Shallowater Precinct. Polls open at 8 am and close at 6 pm.
