Winter Storm Sweeps Texas and Northeast with Snow

A major winter storm dumped snow across West Texas from Dimmitt to Plainview and covered El Paso and South Plains regions. Temperatures plunged, warnings issued for hazardous driving, and accumulations climbed up to three inches in high elevations. Contemporaneous New England and New York saw heavy snow with sub zero cold, as New York City reported drifting snow and gusts up to 50 mph. See WARMUP Page 20.

Shangri La hid near Caprock in Spur pioneer days

Spur woman recalls a hidden utopia named Shangri-La beside Miller Creek in Caprock foothills west of Matador. Rancher John Miller built a rock house in 1892 for his wife and children. seven children were born there, including Mrs. C. A. McGully, now linked to the DLW Birnie Ranch in Motley County.

Johnson and Eshkol discuss peace during Texas ranch visit

Two Autos Collide Head-On Near Levelland Killing Two

A head on collision 12 miles north of Littlefield on U S 385 Sunday afternoon killed Royce Delwin Hayes 20 9 of Levelland and Mrs Odessa Ivy 58 of Friona while injuring two others. Hayes died at the scene near 5 20 p m Mrs Ivy died on arrival at Medical Arts Hospital Friona John Leland Ivy critically injured and later moved to Parmer County Hospital Friona Jerry K Warren 22 Reese Air Force Base Fairman in good condition at Medical Arts Hospital. Hayes a Hockley County native was a Levelland partsman and Whitarral High School graduate. Funeral arrangements pending.
