New Trial Motion Filed For Dowdy

Lawyers for Rep John Dowdy filed a motion in U S District Court seeking a new trial or reversal of his conviction on bribery conspiracy charges. They cite constitutional grounds related to Dowdy’s congressional status and the use of electronic recordings as part of the case. Judge Reazel C Thomson will hear arguments on a date to be set. Dowdy, 59, long representing East Texas, was found guilty December 30 by a jury of nine women and three men in a $25 000 bribery conspiracy to block a federal probe of a Maryland business figure.
