Warm Trend To End Cold's Grip In Texas

A slow warming trend was expected to lift the deep freeze across Texas and the Lubbock area after subzero dawn temperatures. The National Weather Service projected Lubbock would rise into the low 60s, following a polar air mass that left at least three deaths in the state and threatened crops as far south as the Rio Grande. In Lubbock, temperatures crept up from 3 degrees amid snow melt, with two men reported dead in the region and a third found near Stephenville.

Cold snap shuts schools and disrupts Texas gas supply

The Texas cold wave drove record lows across the state and forced school closures in Dallas area districts while delaying sports events. Lubbock and Amarillo faced gas shortages. Swift actions by Pioneer Natural Gas and utility providers restored gas by Wednesday afternoon. Transmission lines and limiting industrial use helped residential demand, with Dallas keeping public schools open but private schools and suburbs canceling events. Flooding along rivers added local hazards amid the winter weather.
