Nixon and Nixon family fly to Baltimore in record time

Vice President Richard M. Nixon and family toured aboard an American Airlines jet from the West Coast to Friendship International Airport in Baltimore in three hours 39 minutes. Nixon praised the flight as 19 minutes faster than the prior record.

Vast Area Shivering In Storm

A powerful blizzard blanketed the Midwest with zero to sub zero temps and up to 16 inches of snow in Minnesota and North Dakota. The storm extended into Canada and the East with gale winds and heavy rains along the Atlantic coast. At least 20 deaths were attributed to the three day system, with eight in Texas and several missing in Montana. See ARCTIC Page 8.

A Jan 1960 report from Avalanche Journal discusses a spike of armed robberies in the Lubbock region since November 1959. Police note 12 robberies in about six weeks, totaling $2,493, with eight service stations, three groceries, and a motel restaurant hit.
