Hotel Pierre holdup nets cash and gems in heist
A four to five man bandit group robbed 47 safety deposit boxes at the Hotel Pierre in New York, subduing 19 guests and staff and binding them with handcuffs and tape. Authorities estimate the haul at about half a million dollars, with figures to be finalized by box holders. The crew, linked to a Drake Hotel robbery earlier this month, used handcuffs and tape and operated about 4 a.m. for an hour and a quarter.
