Louisiana Town Sets Debt Free Start With Pay As You Go
Stage set for 1965 as a Louisiana city of about 16 000 residents begins the year debt free under a policy of no unnecessary bond issues and pay as you go. Mayor Jimmy Holt says the five aldermen will continue special taxes for streets recreation cemetery and garbage collection with a goal of lowering the tax rate from 27 1/2 to 22 1/2 mills. The recreation tax supports two centers and runs a year round program with a 42000 surplus.
