Man Is Shot By Dog On Texas Hunt Trip

C G Collins of White Settlement was wounded by a 12 gauge automatic shotgun discharged by a large dog while hunting near Snyder 13 miles southeast at the Frank Kubala place. He was treated at Cogdell Memorial Hospital then Hendrick Memorial and later to a Dallas hospital for possible arterial repair. The incident was investigated by Scurry County Sheriff Earl Abercrombie.

Cawthon Remembered as Red Raider Icon in Texas Tech Era

Pete Willis Cawthon 62 former Texas Tech coach died after a heart attack in Sherman hospital. Graveside rites planned in Mexia Wednesday at 11 am. body at Corley Funeral Home. Survived by widow two sons Pete Jr and Kelly and five sisters. Coached Tech 1930 41 finishing 79 27 6 and helped shape Red Raiders nation with travels and colorful teams.

Tank firm tied to Estes sold to Amarillo firm

Superior Manufacturing Co. known to be connected with Billie Sol Estes was sold Monday to Shelton Equipment and Machine Co. of Amarillo. The plant produced anhydrous ammonia fertilizer equipment used in Estes schemes. Purchase price was not disclosed. Felix C. Shelton said four months were spent reviewing creditors and titles to complete the purchase. Shelton plans to expand to store tanks and oil field equipment.

Dallas Bank Thief Steals Checks in Downtown Hold Up

A nervous young man between 17 and 25 held up a Dallas bank after hours, forced a guard to back off, and escaped in a car after stealing three envelopes of checks worth under $5,000. Texas Leads Nation in New Year Holiday Deaths

The Avalanche Journal reports Texas posted the highest New Year period death toll with 31 violent deaths including 18 in traffic. Nationwide highway deaths reached 219 with 54 fires and 78 other fatalities, totaling 351. The National Safety Council urged caution and urged avoiding drunk driving.

Warm Dry Day Seen For State New Year Forecast
