Expressway plan for Lubbock to run to 1985
Local, state and federal cooperation will fund a long range urban transport plan for Lubbock. The 283 page five year study proposes 56.7 miles of expressways including Loop 289 and an inner loop parallel to Fourth Street and Brownfield Highway. Implementation proceeds in stages as funds allow.

Critics Draw Blame for Heart Donor Shortage in U S
Dr Den ton A Cooley said the stream of heart transplant donors has dried up. Leading surgeon Conley said he has not performed a heart transplant since last November due to lack of donors. A bright fireball over three states fell in Mexico and is identified as a rare carbonaceous chondrite. Dr. Albert King of the lunar receiving lab says analyses are underway, with about 300 pounds recovered and many data points to be gathered on this unusual meteorite class. King notes rapid collection and plans to study radioactivity, mineralogy, and classification.

Ranch Fire Kills Two at Hayden Miles Ranch
Two people died in an early morning fire at the Hayden Miles Ranch five miles east of Andrews. Victims were foreman A. J. Price and guest Carla Ryan 57 of Andrews. Justice of the peace ruled the deaths accidental as flames began around 2 p.m. in the ranch house. Probed details described three people inside. the mother of Price escaped after trying the front door during the blaze.

Two Pilots Die After Reese Jet Crash in New Mexico Mountains
The T37 trainer from Reese AFB was found on the snowy north slope of the Manzano range. Capt. Dennis Bartlett of Northlake Illinois and Lt. Ronald Thibeoutot of Mashua New Hampshire were missing since Saturday. Wreckage lay between 8000 and 6000 feet with occupants still in their seats as Civil Air Patrol and Air National Guard conducted searches near Mountainair and Albuquerque.
