U S astronauts Elliot M See Jr and Charles A Bassett I were killed when their twin jet crashed into the McDonnell Aircraft Corp space center in St Louis. Ten workers were injured as the Phantom jet burst into flames and destroyed the building. The crash halted training for Gemini 9 crew See and Bassett and left Apollo space effort bereaved of two astronauts.
