The Avorlated Pree reports Frank Sharp, a Houston promoter, was grooming Gus Mutscher for a statewide race in 1969. Sharp asked Vance Newell to advise on campaign organization. Newell’s confidential letter dated Sep 47, 1969, was sent to Mutscher, and the state says Mutscher took a bribe to push banking bills vetoed by Dr. Preston Smith ten days after Newell’s letter.
