U.S. Demands Probe of Viet Cong Helicopter Shootdown

The United States formally charged the Viet Cong with shooting down a U S helicopter on a peacekeeping mission north of Saigon and urged the International Commission of Control and Supervision to launch an immediate investigation. Five crewmen were wounded in the Friday incident as Maj. Gen. Gilbert H. Woodward sought a joint four party inquiry. Early Day GM Official Dies At 97

Charles Stewart Mott a Flint philanthropist and longtime GM director died in a Flint hospital at age 97. He had helped build General Motors and later distributed his wealth locally. He was reported to have died in his sleep after being admitted January 28 with illness.

Four Bodies Added To Slaying Spree

Four youths were found slain in a secluded Garden of Eden cabin in Felton, Santa Cruz Mountains. Investigators said they were shot during a mealtime with a small caliber weapon. three shots to the head were confirmed by X rays, while the fourth had a delayed x ray. Authorities tied the killings to a rising string of violence in the county, with Herbert W. Mullin charged for Perez’s murder and others in the prior weeks. Deputies hauled the bodies from the wooded area to the hospital and then the coroner’s office began confirming the details.

Two Plainview Men Die In Shooting Near Hart

Two Plainview men were killed near Hart when struck by a shotgun blast at a farm residence. Elder Walker, 7Shyer and Wayne were pronounced dead at the scene about 18 miles northwest of Plainview. Lass Sinth 7H of Hart was charged with murder as the investigation continued. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Lanuns Home Chapel with pastor Stone officiating. The elder Walker was survived by a son and others. The shooting occurred four miles south of Hart. This report appears on Page I.
