Archite ct Arnold Macker tells county commissioners that meeting Texas jail standards likely requires a new detention facility possibly connected by a tunnel to the existing jail. A remote site could also be considered while the current jail is remodeled as a holding and administrative complex. Manpower costs and staffing will drive long term expenses, potentially outweighing upfront construction savings.

Cold Front Drops Temperatures Across Panhandle Texas

An early week cold front and high pressure ridge push cool dry air into the Panhandle and South Plains. Readings fall up to twenty degrees with a 20 percent chance of light rain or snow mixing before sunrise. A warming trend starts today as a surface trough moves east over New Mexico and West Texas.

Shallowater Man Held In Alleged Exposure

Arturo Hernandez 19 of Shallowater is jailed on 2500 bond after a 13 year old complainant said he exposed himself at a Shallowater elementary school playground during a bicycle race. Also charged were James Peter Benning 20 with possession of a controlled substance and two men with marijuana possession after a traffic stop on US 62 near Lubbock. Mackety Avington Paxton 23 faced attempted burglary charges for trying to break into a residence in the 4000 block.

Grandfather slaying case stalled as suspect hospitalized

Snyder resident 18 year old Jerry Mac Dennis facing murder charges in the death of Jesse Clyde Dennis in Snyder. Second suspect Danny Ray West, also 18, arraigned on auto theft and released on 5000 dollar bond. Authorities say the elder Dennis was murdered with a .22 revolver. car and wallet missing. Dennis had been on felony probation for burglary. probation revocation motion filed before the shooting.
