Lubbock and vicinity expect fair weather with a high in the upper 50s and a low in the upper 20s. No precipitation is forecast and winds remain light across the region.
In Bradenton Mitch Piper reported a break in at his warehouse with about $100 in items taken. The thief left a note joking that the break-in was too costly and warned he wouldn’t return unless he found something worthwhile.
Two youths, David Evans Jacka and Gary Gill Hughes both 17, face burglary of a habitation charges for a March break in at 3021 67th St. Items including a television and tape recorder were taken. They were arrested in the 6700 block of Hartford Avenue. Police recovered several items from the car.
Re-elected directors H D Waller and J M Max Wiser of Lubbock will be sworn in by district lawyer Elmer V East at the Lubbock County Water Control and No 1 board meeting Monday at 10 am. The session at the Buffalo Springs Lake entrance office will discuss lake-use requests, bid openings on accounts, camping rate increases, and a possible long range lake plan.
Judge Tom Clinton Friday refused a motion to reduce bond for Freddie Lee Dedrick 23 of 2707 E Third St keeping him held at 27500 total. He faces aggravated robbery charges from two January incidents in which a man pistol whipped a woman and attempted to drag her into a car then stole her purse and a taxi driver says the bandit seized his pistol and fired twice as he fled.

He notes current state laws create an odd split where small possession is civil or non criminal while growing or trafficking remains felonious. DuPont cites Oregon and Alaska as examples and urges decriminalization as civil penalties or misdemeanors, noting potency differences and limited impact on use.
