City panel backs partial revenue use to bolster LP and L

A city study panel recommends using part of LP and Ls gross revenue for expansion and debt service rather than depositing 1.5 million annually into the city treasury to fund other services. It proposes a seven member board and federal shares totaling 2.5 million to LP and L plus retained miscellaneous income for operations.

GPL Owners Seek To Reduce Taxes In Lubbock Suit

Owners of Great Plains Life and Realty Equity Corp filed a civil suit in 72nd District Court in Lubbock seeking a reduction of taxes on the building of the planned renovation. Fred Timberlake says a half million dollar loan would enable the rebuilding, but tax liens must be cleared first. If the suit fails, reconstruction may still proceed with future funding.

Crown Zellerbach said it will raise the price of 32 pound standard newsprint by 5 dollars to 168 dollars per ton effective Thursday.
