Circus Star Flees Reds Across Border on Electric Cable

East German tightrope performer Horst Klein, 36, crossed 100 yards on a 110000 volt power line from the East to West Berlin in darkness on December 27. He fell after reaching West Berlin, suffering two broken arms and other injuries but was rescued by a West Berlin fireman. Klein said he fled to preserve his art and circus life.

Floods Hit Reno and West as Winter Storm Rages

A vast winter storm triggered multimillion dollar floods and snow slides from California to the Northern Plains. Reno saw floodwaters sweeping over 30 blocks while snowslides derailed a freight train in Colorado. A fog shrouded intersection on State Highway 35 north of Rockport left Cecilia Ann Shults, 6, dead and her two sisters and brother injured after a two car crash.

Gelma Alabama 65 year old Hugh Edward Campbell charged with embezzling nearly 500000 over 42 years. FBI Mobile agent Edwin Tully said funds were diverted from deposits by other banks and misrouted calls exposed the scheme.
