Seven Die In Washington Nursing Home Fire

A fire at the Mount Vernon Nursing Home in Rock Creek Park killed seven bedridden patients, four women and three men, on Wednesday. Staff, firefighters, and bystanders evacuated others as ambulances rushed to hospitals. the cause remained under investigation.

City Bandit hid loot at police station in interrogation room

Police traced the December 28 Picadilly Cafeteria holdup loot to Eldon Howland 49 of 1514 7th St. Juvenile officer Willis Clark found $230 crammed under a board nailed to chair legs in an interrogation room after a month’s hiding. Howland called it a spur of the moment act and vaguely remembered it due to drinking.
