A pilot program in California will allow automatic electronic deposit of wages across 144 banks and about 3,000 branches. Initiated by a banker committee since 1968, the voluntary system lets employees authorize employers to deposit paychecks directly, reducing payroll paperwork as the pilot starts in late February.
