Fortenberry Cotton Leader Dies at 72 in Lubbock
William O. Fortenberry, 72, noted agricultural figure and former leader in cotton organizations, died Tuesday night after a vascular illness. He had lived on the South Plains for about 40 years and was named 1958 Man of the Year in Texas Agriculture. Funeral plans were pending with Henderson Funeral Directors. Survivors include his wife Bonnie, two daughters Imogene Bowman and Ed Smith, two sons Billy and Joe, two sisters, a brother, and nine grandchildren. He had headed Plains Cotton Growers Inc. and the National Cotton Council.
