Ding Dong Bell Sparks a Tiny Texas Town Tale
In Ding Dong Bell County Texas Annie Hold and her 87 year old husband Charley preserve a local landmark a steam locomotive bell. The bell arrived in 1962 spurring visitors to stop at the former Charley’s store on the Lampasas River near Fort Hood. Their ramshackle town grows around the Bell’s sign painted by Colin Hoover and the two Bells initials on the storefront. Charley recalls years of work as a handyman and blacksmith including building his home at age 81. The Bells maintain the bell as a charm of their community and Annie rings it for visitors and memories.
