Union Wage Increase Demands Refused in Wichita Falls Strike

Four operating railroad brotherhoods of the Wichita Falls & Southern Railway began a strike at 9 a m affecting about 70 employees on the 169 mile line. The walkout followed the company refusal to grant a 3.92 a day wage increase.

Anti-Trust Suit Filed Against Levelland Cotton Ginners

Attorney General Price Daniel filed an anti trust suit in 53rd district court claiming an unlawful agreement among Levelland cotton ginners to fix ginning prices at 75 cents per hundred pounds of seed cotton and to pay above market prices for cotton seed to suppress independent buyers. Defendants include R D McDonald Levelland Farmers Cooperative gin Lawrence France W H and Howard Brown and J L Smallwood. The state seeks daily penalties and a permanent injunction, based on testimony from a Levelland inquiry prompted by farmers complaints about rising ginning costs from about 10 to 15 dollars per bale. This is Daniel’s 13th anti trust suit in his liv ing cost drive.

Mexican hero gets ten year prison term for burglary

Jesse James Herrera 30 pleaded guilty to burglary in 99th District Court and was sentenced by Judge G V Pardue to ten years in the state penitentiary. Herrera has a long record dating to 1938 with prior sentences in Dawson Harris and Bexar counties for robbery by assault.

Student Charged in Harrison Death

A University of Texas student Orville S. Blevins was charged with negligent homicide after his car struck a taxi killing Lee C. Harrison, a Lebbock and Dallas oil man, on November 30 in Austin. Harrison was ejected and died from head injuries.

President Says Truman Supports Greek Aid Program

Firecracker Offenders Face Heavy Fine In Lubbock

Theft Wave Not Subside In Local News

A 30 year old man Marshall Bolden of Lubdbock was arrested on charges tied to theft from Willie Anderson at 2502 East Ave. G. Bolden surrendered $19.90 and promised to pay the remaining $10.10 if Anderson would not prosecute. Two other suspects held for investigation faced $2.50 stolen from a hotel room. A car theft case reported $35 in losses from H. G. Hale with a suitcase and clothes. J. E. Mann reported two bird dogs stolen, one liver colored with white spots and the other almost solid liver with a white breast spot and Mann’s name tattooed in the ear.
