Overseas teachers press for fact finding on pay
The Overseas Education Association seeks an impartial fact finding committee to study higher salaries for about 6 500 teachers at some 300 overseas military installations. The action followed Defense Department threats to discharge staff refusing to work, with talks at the Pentagon yielding a temporary postponement. Joseph Crawford urged McNamara and Dr Carr to name distinguished citizens to hear complaints and review the department position. The Pentagon affirmed salaries are legal but cannot fund raises. In Crosbyton, Mrs Louis Catuogno of Lubbock was named chair of a local audition center by the National Guild of Piano Teachers with auditions planned May 14-15, 1965.
