Restrictions House Conferees Weigh Foreign Aid Bill

Conferees Thursday work on a compromise foreign aid authorization bill stripped of many restrictive amendments opposed by the administration. The total ceiling is to be set in a later bill, with a compare to Kennedy era funding. The agreement faces testing next week in both chambers and may not pass before Christmas recess as the current fiscal year begins. The bill originally passed by the House at 25.5 billion and the Senate at 1.7 billion, with dispute over presidential authority to extend tariff concessions, notably for Poland and Yugoslavia, and to limit extensions to only those nations within national interest. Senate language was revised to forbid MFN status to Communist countries beyond Poland and Yugoslavia.

East Part Changed Board Retains West 50th Zoning Pattern

The City Planning and Zoning Commission kept the western zoning pattern along West 50th Street Thursday but urged more strip commercial zoning east of Avenue H. Four other zone changes were denied, including extending an industrial district in south West Lubbock. Three new requests were approved amid several tabled items.

New Tech Name To Be Considered

Texas Tech's Board of Directors will hear opinions today for possible changes in the college's name. Persons who filed briefs will appear between 10 am and 4 pm in the President's Office. spokesmen present one at a time. The board will hold its annual dinner at 6 15 pm in the Union Building ballroom with Helen Por as speaker. A regular meeting is set for 9 20 am Saturday in the President's Office with no action expected on Tech's name.

About 18 used cars were auctioned by PEE PEBROCE Interport Autoididle dealer Thursday raising around 3000 dollars for Goodfellows.
