The Viet Cong representative Le Van Diep read a release saying the soldiers were freed due to the popular movement against President Johnson's policies. The two soldiers told reporters they would press their anti war campaign despite potential sanctions, saying they know both sides of history.
California scientists report a needle injected brain chemical from trained hamsters into rats. The treated rats quickly perform the trained task without training, suggesting memory transfer mechanisms. Findings, by Babich, Jacobson, and Bubash of UCLA, appear in NAS November proceedings and discuss RNA’s possible role in memory encoding.

The Army Headquarters in San Antonio announced the inactivation of 120 Army Reserve units across Arkansas Louisiana New Mexico and Texas affecting 8591 reservists. South Plains units in Lubbock Amarillo Plainview Borger Pampa Terminal near Odessa are included with 150 men from the 190th Signal Battalion in Lubbock. Remaining soldiers may transfer to the SRF or join Army National Guard or mobilization reinforcements pools.
