John S Powell known as Papa Johnny died Saturday at 5 p m at his son in law and daughter's home on Levelland Road after two months illness. A founder of Brownfield First Methodist Church and leader of Brownfield Bank and local band he lived 80 years. Funeral services will be 2 30 this afternoon at First Methodist Church with burial Monday in Scottsville cemetery, Marshall. Surviving are nine grandchildren and Mrs Rush.

A second fire within 29 days damaged Mark Halsey Drug Stores when a blaze erupted in the men’s room of No 3 store at Sixteenth and Texas Ave at 1 40 p m Saturday. Firefighters contained it in under 10 minutes with smoke and water damage noted. Origin suspected from a cigarette. Previously a November 2 blaze at No 1 store Broadway and Ave L caused about 100000 dollars in damage, believed from fumes of carbon disulfide contacting a lit cigarette. Both incidents occurred during weekend rush hours.
