Quake Recalls Tremors Hit Anchorage Alaska

Two sharp earthquakes rattled Anchorage at 10 22 and 10 24 a m local time causing fear but little damage. Seismologists estimate magnitude 5 5 to 6 with epicenter in the Chugach mountains near Valdez. The 1964 Good Friday quake killed 115 in Alaska and caused over 300 million in damage.

Kay Hayden Named South Plains Maid of Cotton

Kay Hayden a 19 year old Texas Tech cheerleader from Midland captured the South Plains Maid of Cotton title before 1500 people in Municipal Auditorium Tuesday night after two days of judging to select a goodwill emissary for the area s top industry. Large scale search continues for three Lubbock men missing

A multi-state Civil Air Patrol effort in the Springfield Detroit area is renewed after murky weather hindered previous days of aerial scans for three Lubbock residents missing since Saturday. Pilot Jack T. Goodman, Cody Cure, and a third companion were en route to Detroit for a church meeting and have not been heard from.
