Severe cloudbursts and floods struck southwestern Wisconsin before dawn Thursday. The storms dumped heavy rain, washing out roads and flooding homes. Communications were disrupted as rivers rose, with at least several inches of rain reported on affected routes.
Peggy Ann Frye 25 a friend of FBI fugitive Harry Raymond Pope one of the ten most wanted faced arrest and aiding his hideout Rita Louie Norris 26 widow of Paul Norris posted 1000 bond and was released in Lubbock. Pope waived extradition and officials expect him to be sent to Phoenix. Pope held on twenty thousand dollar bond in Phoenix case.
Edwards AFB Calif AP reported the rocket X15 with test pilot Scott Crossfield aboard is scheduled for a Friday flight. The needlelike craft, aimed to reach 4000 mph about 100 miles up, will be dropped from a bomber and powered by two low thrust rocket engines under the bomber wing.
A car in automatic gear struck a Phillips 66 station at 3702 Ave causing a fuel pump fire. The blast drew four fire trucks but Kimbell Ray Berry, the station owner, could not save the scene and suffered damage. Lynch expressed rueful remorse.
The House sent the housing bill to the Senate with President Eisenhower’s veto expected amid a 71 to 24 vote. Some Republicans argued the bill was inflated and inflationary. In Lubbock the City Commission approved four zoning changes and deferred two cases for reconsideration by the Planning and Zoning Commission.
A New York bound Argentine airliner crashed near Asuncion. The pilot and one passenger were killed, with twenty others injured. Officials identified the commander as Stanley James Lense, 38, and noted the pair of casualties included a Spanish citizen and a local passenger.
Khrushchev, addressing the Senate, claimed the United States was signaling to Laos and meddling in Southeast Asia while accusing Soviet rebels and Red forces of insurgent activity. He said such acts insult the free world and threatened peace talks only if the U S did not pressure Communist movements.
Gus Quinita Anaya of 3606 E 13th St Lubbock died instantly when two caliche trucks owned by Jalomo of Lubbock collided head on 3.4 miles south on a dirt road at 11 20 a m Thursday. One other driver was injured and a passenger in one truck was hurt. Manuel Bar n is of 3306 E 13th St Lubbock and Danny Here hurt. Anaya had lived in Lubbock since 1957 and leaves his mother, six sisters, and a half brother. Survivors include relatives and a family note mentions Caliche hauling for Al Hood Construction Co of Lubbock.

Tear gas bombs were set off in the Little Rock school board headquarters foyer during a routine meeting. Fumes forced evacuation as protests over a token integration plan continue. Leonard Willis, a janitor, saw two women toss bombs then flee, though details and license number remained unclear due to gas. See GAS, Page 10.
