Violent storms bring 80 mph winds to Texas Panhandle
Severe thunderstorms swept the Panhandle South Plains late Monday into today, spawning tornadoes and winds up to 80 mph. A broad band stretched from near Oklahoma City to Carlsbad, causing downed lines and traffic signal outages in Lubbock and surrounding towns. Reports noted one half inch of rain in parts of Lubbock, with re-evaluations predicting more rainfall mainly east of the area. A tornado warning was issued for Bailey County near Muleshoe, and warnings were lifted by 11 p.m. with rain tapering off.
