The Interior Department's Bureau of Sport Fisheries and Wildlife will auction 100 genuine Texas longhorns at the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge near Cache Oklahoma on September 15. The sale includes both mature animals and calves.

President Johnson tours five Northeast states urging voluntary restraint to curb excess in cities economy and race relations. He cites dangers to prosperity and calls for a domestic good neighbor policy and self discipline by citizens to support Vietnam effort and social progress.
The largest summer class in Tech history, about 800 graduates, received degrees in Lubbock. Seven doctoral candidates and the first Master of Arts in French were among those honored. Dr. Orle K. Childs urged graduates to face social and professional challenges with responsibility and civic conscience. Top scholastic honors went to Jerome Leslie Smithwick and Rith Ann Shelburne.
Texas Tech board unanimously approved establishing the International Center for Arid and Semi Arid Land Studies and reserved a 70 acre triangle of campus land for ICASAS activities. Roy Farr named chairman C A Cash vice chairman. new biology building plans authorized.
Rain drenched farms north of Clovis and extending across the western Panhandle with two inch totals reported near the area. A front moving toward Jaub bock was forecast to touch off additional showers today with highs in the 80s. One downpour north of Clovis caused a motorist to lose control on Hwy 60 84 as runoff affected the roadway.
A wooden steel platform atop the slate fair grandstand broke during time trials for the 100 mile Bettenhausen Memorial Race in Springfield Michigan. Don Branson won the race as 37 others were injured. Victims identified as Dale R. Mueller jr Overland Missouri Glen R. Lockwood San Bernardino California and Ralph Heger Springfield. Ronald W. Drewett injured critically with multiple fractures and head injuries.
A babysitter Mrs Doyce Wilhite alerted the mother that her baby had swallowed a pacifier. A banker, an ambulance attendant and others joined a rapid response with police escort to reach safety. The infant was saved and was reported doing well at home.
In eastern Turkey the tremors from a devastating earthquake killed thousands and left 2,077 dwellings collapsed in Hinis district. Gov Ali Akarsu reported 29 villages wiped out and rescue teams labored amid feverish efforts with international aid from the United States Britain Greece and leaders Pope Paul VI and President de Gaulle.
The Department of Housing and Urban Development announced two Texas funding actions. A $748,000 loan to Texas College in Tyler funds construction of two dormitories. A $686,000 grant to Borger finances $1,557,000 in water works improvements.
Charles G Bragg of Washington DC discussed how the Agriculture Department will determine the world price of cotton. He spoke at the CTASCOED convention in a Kato Palace session attended by more than 500 people. The 1967 loan rate is set at 90 percent of the world price, with USDA discretion in defining the world price. See COTTON Page 12.
