Fireat Salvation Army home kills twenty nine elderly men

In Melbourne a four story Salvation Army destitute home fire killed 29 men and injured 12. Police blame likely electrical fault or smoking in bed on the fourth floor as residents, many asleep, suffocated or died of heart attacks. Fire crews arrived quickly after 11 pm.

Shelby Kritser 52 chairman of the Texas Aeronautics Commission dies when his F8F Bearcat crashes at Amarillo Municipal Airport during an air show before about 2,000 spectators. He had flown at a Lubbock show July 10 before the fatal dive. Services set for Monday at St Andrews Episcopal Church with burial in Llano Cemetery.
