A Texas storm system caused a tornado near Snyder and hail in Slaton amid heavy rain that lauded cotton fields and cut stalks. Lightning and thunder storms battered the Corpus Christi coast with showers statewide. New York area reported deadly thunderstorms killing three to four people.
The National Weather Service forecast center in Lubbock will receive a new radar Monday with installation starting Tuesday. The old WWII era radar at Lubbock Regional Airport was disconnected to allow dismantling work. The upgrade, begun in August 1972, aims for a week or more to install and calibrate.
