Shirley Anthony 31 and Randy Rampy 16 of Slaton recount a daytime armed robbery at a local service station. Robbers forced Anthony to place cash in a paper sack and taped Rampy as they fled. Rampy was also threatened and tied to the floor. Police sought the suspects.

A Levelland woman, Mrs Jar Poe, 58, died at the scene in a two vehicle crash at the FM 1780 FM 1 intersection, about 2 15 p m Thursday. Glenn Edgar Poe, 46, was hospitalized in good condition with cuts and bruises. A pickup driver Jesse Berry 45 of Dell City also in good condition. Mrs Bobby Berry 43 of Dell City was listed as undetermined at Lubbock Methodist Hospital. Services were pending at Smith Funeral Home in Levelland.
A man believed from Bovina was robbed of 1900 dollars at Plains Motel Hereford by two men and two women early today. Investigators said the loot was in 100 dollar bills and the victim’s identity had not yet been confirmed. The robbers had checked in about 1130 p.m. Wednesday.
The Senate passed a tough gun control bill 68 to 25, aiming to remove about 1 million small, cheap handguns from the market. Sponsored by Sen. Birch Bayh, the measure would set strict size, weight, caliber and safety criteria and compel Treasury list fliers, with compensation for dealers and owners who surrender weapons.
Thunderstorms rake South Plains with an inch or more rainfall around Lockney and Paducah where hail and high winds sparked grass fires. A tornado in Newton Massachusetts kills a 14 year old girl and injuries several others at a pool. The line of storms also caused warnings across New England.
