UBBOCK voters will go to the polls Sept 17 to decide a $15 668 000 municipal bond election for five years of capital improvements for the city. The same meeting set the city budget of $13 083 391 for the upcoming fiscal year as two main highlights of the city commissioners session at City Hall.
Lubbock commissioners adopt a wait and see stance on buying electricity from Southwestern Public Service and endorse sending a 7.5 million dollar electric expansion bond to voters on Sept 17 while approving seven bond categories totaling 8.168 million dollars for city projects. A Minuteman guided missile was launched successfully Thursday from Vandenberg Air Force Base California in a routine SAC training test. The operation was conducted by a Strategic Air Command crew at the Pacific Coast site.
President Kennedy asked the Senate to ratify the limited nuclear test ban treaty arguing it would boost U.S. security more than continued testing. He stressed no secret Soviet understandings and called the pact an opening to further agreements. Diplomats worldwide queued to sign as the measure faced the Senate.
