Hale Center City Judge Dies In Auto Mishap

Hale Center city judge W Powell, 70, died in Methodist Hospital after a morning traffic crash on Highway 87. Powell, who had held the post since its creation six years ago, was among eight injured in a day of area mishaps. He was ejected 10 to 12 feet, suffering a head injury, and was treated at Hi Plains Hospital Hale Center before transfer. Funeral arrangements were pending.

Woman Shot Found In Cotton Field Near Snyder

The body of 36 year old Mrs Aubrey Mary Inez Wilson was found face down in a cotton field about three miles northwest of Snyder. Authorities planned autopsy in Abilene to determine weapon type after 8 to 10 bullet wounds were found. The victim’s husband J C Wilson is a Snyder farmer. family members were nearby in the orchard when the shooting occurred. Sheriff Earl Abercrombie was alerted and the body left untouched.
