Axis Fears Yugoslav Supply Lines Through Submarine Contacts

Anxiety Over Missing Native Army On Aleutian Attu

Don Pickard and Ginger Pickard recall C Foster Jones and his 47 native men who formed an improvised army on Attu when Japan invaded the Aleutian outpost. Jones, island caretaker and radio operator, reportedly drilled the natives and warned of fighting if the invaders landed, even threatening to destroy aviation fuel stores. After broadcasting four daily aerological reports, Jones vanished and is presumed dead or captured.

Death Claims Girl Who Was Held Prisoner in Attic

Nine year old Alice Harris died at a Milford school after years of neglect that left her emaciated and crippled by rickets. Found in a Fayette county attic in 1938 she lived a virtual prisoner with her mother and grandfather until custody transferred four years prior. The child weighed 31 1 4 pounds at discovery, having been fed only from a bottle.

Rommel accelerates supply by small craft to front lines

Police quell disturbance at Santa Anita assembly center

Two hundred military police were rushed inside the Japanese assembly center at Santa Anita last Tuesday to quell a disturbance. An evacuee suspected of being an informer was badly beaten by a large crowd and rescued by soldiers who took him to a hospital.
