Youth Found Guilty Of Girl's Murder In Texas Case
Danny McCrary, 20, was found guilty of murder with malice in the October 1971 shooting death of Jena Covey, 19, of Mesquite. The jury deliberated about seven and a half hours before returning the verdict at 2 28 p m. McCrary faces a punishment hearing as the judge prepares the charge. The Coveys were former Lubbock residents. McCrary also faced separate charges in Mrs Covey's husband Forrest's death, but was tried only for Jena's murder. The couple was abducted from a Mesquite grocery and later found shot to death in a barn near Quinlan. A statement placed McCrary, his father, and brother-in-law at the barn. his father Sherman and Carl Taylor are on trial elsewhere in Golden Colorado in another slaying connected to the case. Defense sought to shift blame to a dead man questioned in the slayings.
