Moderate quake hits Aleutians near Dutch Harbor

A 5.4 magnitude earthquake struck Dutch Harbor in Alaska's Aleutians at 7:28 p.m. CST Thursday. Palmer Observatory officials called it moderate and reported no damage or tsunami threat for the harbor about 800 miles west of Anchorage.

Cambodia Seizes 50 Mile Highway 1 Stretch Amid Saigon Threat

Waves of enemy troops swept a 50mile stretch of Highway 1 in eastern Cambodia causing concern for Saigon 40 miles away. North Vietnamese tanks then attacked An Loc 60 miles north of Saigon as Svay Rieng Province fell under heavy pressure. Cambodian officers said the objective is to seize Svay Rieng and restore border bases to support the offensive toward Saigon.

Loss Heavy In Fire At Lantern Square Amarillo

A blaze in Lantern Square Apartments in Amarillo destroyed one of six units. No injuries were reported. Damage to the structure exceeded 200000 with the complex built in 1970 at a 1.25 million cost. Odessa murder trial venue moved to Fort Worth

Special report: Johnny Meadows, charged with the June 1971 murder of Gloria Sue Nix Green, has the case moved from Odessa to Criminal District Court No. 3 in Fort Worth. No trial date set. Green, 26, was found dead under a mattress in a vacant Odessa lot.

TU Protesters Maced and Clubbed at University of Texas

Eight antiwar protesters were arrested at the University of Texas after a downtown march. Witnesses said police maced and clubbed the demonstrators as about 200 people gathered. The charges included abusive language damaging a police car and disobeying a police order to stay on a sidewalk.

Cowboys Escape Injury In Lubbock Rodeo Opener

The Texas Tech Intercollegiate Rodeo opened at the Lubbock Municipal Coliseum before about 2,750 fans. Cowboys and cowgirls battled stock and time with near-misses including Buzz Cooper being stomped and limping away. Jesse Swaggerty won the Dub Parks award for service to the association.
