Galveston April 19 L D Boswell longshoremen foreman on the Grandcamp testified before a Coast Guard board investigating the Texas City disaster. He said workers loading ammonium nitrate smoked freely, contradicting foreman C R Dannar who said smoking was banned at hatch No 2. Boswell also said after the blaze was found someone told them not to pour water into the hatch.
The Abernathy case seeks return of about 332 acres near Mackenzie State Park and damages around 450000. If the suit succeeds it could redefine underground water rights for Texas communities relying on wells, potentially reaching the Texas Supreme Court.
