Thief Routed In Holdup Battle Leaves Scant Details

Dawn of Civilization Dawn’s First Post Office in Deaf Smith County

The Dawn settlement on Tierra Blanca Creek grew from J J Parrish’s 1887 store to a post office called Dawn. Cowboys delivered mail to remote ranches in exchange for shelter and meals, culminating in a 1914 postmaster commission for Grace Wines. The town later served as a rail switch and water pump stop for the Panhandle Santa Fe line.

Car Plunge Drowns Amarillo Man and Son at Lake Meredith

An Amarillo man Moenoil Frost aged 35 and his 12 year old son Donald died when their car swerved off a boat ramp at Lake Meredith near Fritch. The car traveled about 200 feet in water before sinking. Hayde Posey 47 swam to shore and was treated for shock. Funeral services for Frost and his son are pending in Amarillo.
