Poison Fumes Fatal To The Rescue Efforts In Cave Tragedy
A gas-filled cave explosion trapped three Boy Scouts on a ledge for 20 hours. Their leader Phil Howell of Atlanta died, and two would-be rescuers perished rushing in without full gear. The three Scouts were rescued alive, later found the leader dead.

Seven Hurt In Mishaps In Lubbock Area Saturday
Seven people suffered injuries in Lubbock area traffic crashes on Saturday raising district totals to 17 hurt since Friday. One man died in the city Friday and Dorothy Helen Rogers 36 a former Idalou resident was killed in Amarillo when a car struck a switch engine. A head on collision 13 miles south of Lubbock on Ave P injured two men riding alone. Drivers were identified as Joe B Murphy 45 and Adron C Miller 68. Both cars were demolished and taken to Metho dist Hospital where Murphy was listed in fair condition and Miller held for emergency care.
