Bombs drop near Fire Base 6 as U S planes unleash 7000 pound blocks for the first time against North Vietnamese troops. Stratofortresses pound positions near the base while ranger units attack a hill top position. Supplies slowly flow to the besieged base as rains interrupt reinforcements.
United Press Internation reports with under three days left in the tax season that about one fifth of the 725 million returns are still unfiled. IRS data as of April 2 show 46.4 million filed, 26.1 million to go, with 15 million not mailed. About 60 percent sought refunds, risking additional tax payments for late filers.
Postmaster General Winton Blount announced plans to deliver air mail within 600 miles in one day and most other major cities in two days by summer.
