The AAA reports private passenger car travel in the United States has fallen about 40 percent due to nationwide tire rationing and gasoline restrictions in the east and Pacific northwest. Two Lubbock Men Receive Navy Ensign Commissions
Two Lubbock men receive Navy commissions announced Saturday. G. C. Dowell of 2306 Seventeenth Street, tech grid and track star 1932 34, is commissioned ensign and to report April 1 at Annapolis for deck training. George W. McCleskey of 1718 Thirtieth Street, attorney with Nelson McBrown, is commissioned ensign in the Naval Reserve and to report not later than Tuesday at Dallas, then to San Diego. Both are married. Dowell has a two year old daughter.

Washington April 11 forecast a swift House approval of a bill doubling the basic Army private pay from two dollars a month, with hearings to open Tuesday. The Senate already approved the measure, which would raise pay for enlisted personnel in Army and Navy and may include a rider for dependents. Rep. Edmiston has proposed separate allowances, but a War Department report is pending.
