Regional war food director Latham White announced reduced civilian rice supplies for April through June as producers must offer full milled rice for government purchase. The WFA office has bought about 126.9 million pounds of rice costing around 8 million dollars since milling season began last August 15.
Calves and lambs exhibited Saturday at Slaton were auctioned Tuesday at Lubbock Auction and Commission. Calves owned by Marshall Ross and Bruce Barrier of Lubbock weighed about 730 and 780 pounds and sold to Hemphill-Wells Co. and Dunlap's. presented to Texas Tech for feeding and later shown at the National Hereford show in Dallas in October. Prices ranged 31 and 30 cents per pound. OPA had restricted resale above the Lubbock ceiling of 16.25 cents.
