Voters in Lubbock approved a 5.6 million dollar five year capital improvements bond by 5 693 to 2 572 for, with 8 265 total ballots cast. Non property owners favored the plan 358 to 61 and Mexican American areas supported it strongly. Haynes School led in votes with 835, Ella Iles 130 for 11 against, Carter 49 49 the closest, while officials hailed the result as a sign of community pride in the schools.

The Lubbock Urban Renewal Board studied a tentative second-year Neighborhood Development Program totaling 4.5 million dollars and set a June 30 deadline to submit the federal funding application. Revised relocation costs under the Uniform Relocation Act of 1970 may require cities to cover one third of displacement costs starting July 2, 1972.
