Ronald Reagan in a national address warned against living in a world dominated by the Soviet Union. He cited a Kissinger quote attributed to Elmo Zumwalt and pressed for stronger U.S. military policy and defense buildup. State Department aide Lawrence Eagleburger said the Kissinger remark was false. The speech lasted about 30 minutes and cost $80.

About 600 area officials dignitaries and airline industry representatives attended the opening night at Lubbock Regional Airport’s new terminal. Dean Thompson of the Chamber of Commerce said the event highlighted efforts to finance and build the airport. Invited guests included mayors managers and former city officials with representation from the Civil Aeronautics Board Braniff Continental and Texas International among others.
Laura Payne gave birth to twins Jennifer Michelle and Jamie Lynn Payne in unusual fashion. One baby arrived in a Glen Burnie hospital parking lot in front of a state police helicopter and the other was born midflight over Baltimore as the chopper carried them to University Hospital. The delivery completed on the hospital roof as the helicopter landed.
A cross-action suit filed Wednesday seeks 350000 in damages against Vaughan B Nowlin by John Ed Prichard of Lubbock. The case arises from cotton transactions in area courts with Hoch seeking over 44000 for 206 bales.
Slated today the president of Texas International will christen the DC-9 City of Lubbock. An open house from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday invites the public to tour the facility with airport staff available to answer questions. An employee open house is also planned for Wednesday. The first scheduled commercial flights from the new terminal are set for April 11 and the move from the old facility will occur in one instant on April 10.
